Gewone naam: Flame Vine

Groeibeskrywing:

Immergroen, vinnig groeiende rankplant. Kan tot 20 meter hoog rank. Blomme is opvallend oranje en word gedurende die winter gedra.

Plasing:

Plant in volle son as rankplant teen heinings, pale of rame.

Land van oorsprong: Brazilie.

Gehardheid: Blomme word beskadig indien temperature benede vriespunt daal.

Besproeiing en grond: Benodig min water. Plant in goed gedreineerde grond.

Voortplanting: Plant voort deur middel van stiggies. Takke wat op die grond lê ontwikkel wortels en kan ook met sukses oorgeplant word.

TUINDAGGA: -Klipdagga – Leonotis ocymifolia

Dit is ‘n een/tweejarige struikie wat tot ongeveer 1.5m hoog groei. Dit groei horisontaal, maar kan meerstammig groei as dooie blomme uitgeknip word. Die oranje blomme groei in ry ronde bolle en is ongeveer 70mm in deursnee. Dit hou van volson en groei wild in grasveld, rotsriwwe en woudrande. Die saad versprei maklik.

Wilde Dagga – Leonotis Leonurus

Die wilde dagga, wat van die Salie familie is, is ‘n meerjarige struik wat tot 2m hoog en 1 – 2m wyd groei. Die blare is dofgroen en lansetvormig.

Die oranje of wit blomme groei in klompies aan die bo-kant van die take, vanaf herfs tot lente.

Die struik is taai en bestand teen ryp en droogte. Dit groei van die Wes Kaap tot in Natal. Plant dit in goeie grond, in volson met genoeg water tot dit gevestig is. Dit groei maklik van steggies. Snoei die struik goed in die lente, na die blomtyd. As die blomknoppe gereeld uitgeknip word, sal dit aanhou blom.

Die blomme van beide klip- en wilde dagga produseer baie nectar wat die bye en veral die suikerbekkies lok.

Leonotis beteken leeu se oor – dit dui op die vorm en tekstuur Die Tuindagga is geensins verwant aan die mak dagga (Cannabis sativa) nie. Die blare van die tuindagga lyk baie soos die van sommige mak dagga – vandaar die naam.
